Sounds like a BIOS limitation??? cpcjoy 05-18-2002, 09:41 PM I have Asus CL-2 M/B, WinME and all scsi system. I even hooked up external scsi drives and all are recognized properly as to capacities. I was thinking that maybe you can't go beyond 9 gig on removable drives. By the way, I defined it as removable but actually it is inside my computer connected with a 18 gig U160 drive. Thanks otheos 05-19-2002, 03:27 AM So you went and bought the overpriced 29160 but stuck to WinME? WinME (and all W9x kernels) have no idea what SCSI is. It's killing SCSI performance, so with the next upgrade, seriously consider W2K or XP. Now I am not sure how you install a hard drive as a removable drive, but you need to fdisk (enable large disk support) and make partitions. Have you done that? Also what does the SCSI chain look like (termination etc)? cpcjoy 05-19-2002, 05:05 PM Thanks for the reply. I did Fdisk per your suggestion and did the partitioning. Everything is OK now. It's 18 gig now but the drive show both as local E and removable H. I think I can handle it. It is being scanned right now and when it's done I'll take it out as removable and I hope it will solve the issue. Thanks again and more power to you. otheos 05-19-2002, 06:13 PM No problem, just make sure you see a W2K upgrade soon to make use of your hardware at its full capability. Your chain is cabled/terminated properly right? cpcjoy 05-19-2002, 11:05 PM Thanks again. Now, my computer has 3 18 gig drives. I am still not clear about upgrading to W2k or XP for full performance. I am still very new on computer hardware capabilites, combination of compatible parts. Using the system mainly as DAW, I have Layla 24 sound card and Cakewalk Pro, Sonar, Sound Forge, Reason, Cubase, etc. for my recording and editing. I have some digital and analog equipment interconnected to the computer. I am really seriously considering upgrading to Pentium 4, 2-2.2 gig mhz and transfer my Adaptec 29160 and all other hardware to it but I am wandering how much improvement I could get. Need some input on which motherbord with 64-bit PCI I should get and other related peripherals to have a computer that would be a super DAW. Any suggestion? otheos 05-20-2002, 02:14 AM 64-bit PCI? Only dual CPU motherboards carry these slots and I doubt your usage calls for the expense. As for your upgrade, I am slightly bias towards AMD myself due to their price/performance ratio and the strong fpu so I guess if intel is your game you'll have to ask anew for details. I think a new thread is better for a new discussion. And start by stating your current config and budjet :) SysOpt.com
