I've got a Sony Vaio PCG-F430 with a Toshiba SD-C2202 DVD drive. It will play CDs but won't recognize a DVD. Any suggestions?

Do you have any DVD decoder software installed?

DirectDVD. But it doesn't recognize the DVD nor does windows. It will see a CD but not a DVD. I have tried a video DVD and a Microsoft .Net DVD.

I uninstalled the device and let windows reinstall it but to no avail. If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate it.

An AOpen DVD drive pulled this on me. It did the same in 3 PCs.

It makes a decent CD drive, so I sold it as one.

Could it have something to do with the dvd's haveing a larger area where the data is written to on disk.:)

I think that there are two separate lasers in DVD drives. The DVD laser seems to burn out before the CD one does.
