heard a month or so ago that ME had all kinds of bugs, and the OEM's were shipping Win98SE instead. I just ordered another machine, but they're shipping WinME. Have they gotten most of the bugs fixed/newer release? Haven't heard much about it, but if there's a upgrade for ME, the OEM's probably have it. Any thoughts?

Haven;t seen any catch all patches in the works yet (like SE of Win98) but there are some patches out in the Windows update area of the M$ site. I have seen nothing that changes my mind about its lack of stability though (sorry). I have stuck with 2000 instead of going with ME.

I hardly even see the difference between 98 and ME...

I like it as it makes a m/b cpu etc swap easy, flop everything over it churns away awhile and loads itself up with (most of) the newer drivers...

I have had rock solid stability from Me right out of the box for quite some time now. I installed Me on a new duron system so I though that it might of just been the hardware, so I did a clean install of se and used it for about a month ending two days ago. It wasn't near as prone to crash as the old system but I still got a unacceptable amount of bsod's and the like retaliative to Me.

Me is a love or hate affair...I'm one of the lucky ones who has Me working flawlessly.

It's more stable than win98 on the old p2 system as well, so who knows.

A friend just bought a dell with 128 RAM and WinME. After about an hour, he shows only 512kb free physical memory. He has only one TSR running, his antivirus. We even booted without the antivirus software and the same thing happens. Man I am glad I got off of the Win9x platform.

ME is stable for me.
Did the upgrade from Windows 98nd with only one problem.ME changed my network setting that I use for a cable modem(enable/disable DNS setting),had no internet access after upgrading.Changed the setting and things are good.Could this be the default setting for a dialup connection that ME changed it to?

thanks folks...getting my new machine from Dell also. Hope I don't incur any problems with it. The customer service people told me that most of the problems were AOL related. HUH?? Well, whatever. I'll see, since I've got cable.

So far so good with ME. It's got a great home networking wizard that allowed me to set up a stable and fast home network. The system restore is also nice. It's like photoshop's "go back" for your entire system.

I must say I like it, ALOT, the restore feature alone was worth my 29$ upgrade price, it has saved me twice now, again last night, takes about 10 seconds to turn a "disaster" into the feeling of great relief...

Hey Jokostel

did you incur any problems with the home network hookup? I've got a p-166 already hooked up to cable and will have my new p3-866 machine in a couple days. Sure like to get info on the easiest way to hook these guys up. I've seen some examples of connections, but it looks like a mess either way you go. Any advice?
