I'm trying to make an audio CD on my PlexWriter 12/10/32A with Adaptec CD creator, but everytime I click on the record CD button, it records the track information, spits out the disc and gives me an error message saying "error with output". What's wrong? The help text and the book that came with it are no help. Any advice? Thanks.

Try setting a slower burn speed.

or

If your source is another CD, try recording to the HDD before the burn.

You say it is an Audio CD you are trying to make but you didnt mention if this was a CD to CD copy or Files from your HD or if these were MP3 files. As much detail as posiable will be helpful. Including what Burning speed and make/model of disks you are using. System config ect ect

CD-R Brand: KHypermedia 80Min / 700MB Multi Speed 12x (these came with my burner).

Source: 72Min of 21 Mp3 files.

These are the options. I've tried different combinations of each setting with the same results.

Using the options of the first picture, this is what happens. The burner ejects and gives me this message. Sometimes, after about 60-90 seconds later, my plain CD-ROM will open, too.

I assume this is the IDE version? I vote with slowing down the recording speed. Try one at 4x. Have you clicked on the "view errors" button? What kind of system have you got? Slower processor/less RAM will affect things, as will anything else you might be doing on the computer while it is burning. I believe in coffee breaks while burning. Finally, defragging the HD can help at times.

I got my cd burner this past Christmas, as was having problems myself... I noticed that the write method that is chosen is "Disk-at-once." Now, I'm not terribly sure why this was giving my burner problems, but everytime I tried to record I got an error immediately. I then tried the "Track at once" method, and have been burning fine ever since...

A couple of suggestions that have helped me avoid problems:
1) Burn slower than MAX (4X is good by me)
2) If you are using MP3's, gather them into a single folder. That folder should be on the same hard drive as your programs (ie C)
3) Configure your burner as the slave to your CD-ROM on your secondary IDE cable.
4) For best sound quality, convert your MP3's to WAV using MP3 To WAV from Acoustica. Then run the files through the normalizer found in Audiocatalyst or Audiograbber.

What is the speed of your CD-Rom player? And does it work OK?What brand is it?

My brother and father were having difficulties burning (audio) cd 2 cd at 4x.It's because of that darn 50x Afreey cdrom. It can't sustain the rate the writer records at.The Asus (50x) my brother (and I) have now is much better,it records them fine. But I think that even the Asus can't handle the writer's 12x.

And a copying a cd might fail even if there's one tiny scratch or dirt on the original cd.

I don't think it's the cd, the burner, or any of the hardware because I did try to make an image on the hard drive (see the third picture). Maybe it's the input media.

If you are using MP3's, gather them into a single folder. That folder should be on the same hard drive as your programs (ie C)

I'll try that. I have them sorted into folders by genre and added them from those folders.

Be sure that the DMA box is checked for your burner in Windows...as discussed here alot lately, Plextor requires that.
I always use the Plextor software to do images and copies, it always works well.

Wav files! I changed some of the mp3s to wav files manually and tried it and it worked without a glitch. But why did it make the first track before it crashed? That is odd. Thanks for all of your help!

Another thing I thought of is that my CD burner's instructions recommended that Auto Insert Notification be turned off in your device manager.
Also, with it stopping after one song... That happened to me also. What I did was start a new job and added all of the songs again. Mine was crashing about 1/2 way through the cd, and when I re-did the job and added the song that fell into that particular time slot an error message come up saying that the wav file was not in the correct format.
