Nice job on not opening the file. Your common sense is the number one protection against viruses. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Just received an email with an attachment, from HAHAHAHA, with aload of guff about the 7 dwarfs, and snow white.

The attachment is an exe file, named
dwarf4you.exe,

Can anyone tell me if its a virus, or just a practical joke.

I haven't done anything with it, fear of permentant BIOS damage, usually makes me weary!

Thank's Justy.

It just sounds like a practical joke to me
Remember a lot of viruses are the ones that you think are just 'innocent' chain letters..

Normally i don't open e-mails unless i know the e-mail address/sender ...

(Although my opinion shouldn't count too much because i'm prone to crashing computers)

delete it quick! It's the W32.HybrisF virus, if you do open it, go here and get the fix for it. The longer it runs on your system, the more damage it will cause and it also attaches itself to your out going e-mail, thus spreding it!

I received that exact same email yesterday, and deleted it as soon as it came in. It came from the same hahaha address, but mine had an extension of .scr instead of .exe. I know at another board I frequent, a couple of weeks ago a bunch of members received the exact same virus from the same address.

Yes, we had someone receive that virus today at work. She was smart and didn't open it, and notified our MIS.

I suggest if ever in doubt, don't open an attachment. Do some research at the virus centers, update your virus protection and scan the file first. Even then, it's possible a virus/trojan/worm could be so new that it's not reported and databased yet.

It doesn't matter anymore whether or not you know the person from whom the email comes. Many of the virii these days are spread by attaching and emailing themselves out from a person's address book, and the person it "comes from" doesn't even know it.
