ok, I have a Asus Cubx w/p3 oc'd @ 806

this is my capture machine mind you and I really need udma66
here's all the **** I went thru

1) running win2k, put drive to boot off the CMD controller since the main one only supports udma33.

2) drive wasn't running at any udma on CMD so I install SP2 and now ran @ udma33

3) Installed new CMD drivers (2.0.4) for win2k, nothing

4) Tried new cubx biod rev 1007 and 1008 beta 4, nothing

5) Finally got the western digital program running to switch the udma modes and find out it's on udma33, so I switch it to 66.. woo hoo, could this solve my problem, nope, nothing.. grrr..

6) Tried a different udma66 cable, nothing.

7) Reinstalled SP2 a 2nd time, nothing.

Also win2k reports no conflicts, **** devices and irq 9 tho, lol

Are these CMD controllers on these cubx boards fux0red? Because I am fresh out of ideas.. any help would rock, thx

What makes you think it's not running at UDMA66? If you tell me it's Sandra.... :r

You can always pop in a Promise controller for $20.

Call me crazy but it seems you don't like Sandra

What will a Promise do that the CMD doesn't?

No, it's fixable :) just give us more info.

I'm sorry...I'm bitter.

Nah, same thing really. That CMD is a nice little controller (is it the 640, 648 or 649?).

Sandra is useless when it comes to HDs. Bill asked you the right question: what makes you think it doesn't run at ATA66?

it's the CMD 648, one built onto the cubx board

I can never get higher than 12,000 KB/s on the vdub 50mb write benchmark. I'm always averaging 9,500 KB/s, which is the same as I had on the main udma33 controller.

What hard drive is it? It could well be the drive that is not very fast.

Western Digital 313000

That's a "legacy" 5400RPM ATA/66 drive that was one of the first ATA66 drives WD made. While it's not slow, it will never do the sustained 30MBs transfer rates that you get from the new IBMs, WDs and others. If it's running in UDMA33 as Sandra states, you can only expect another 20-40% increase in throughput. That would put it at about 20MBs.

I dunno. It seems like it's a little sub-par for what it's rated at, but not drastically so. Have you run WinBench or HDTach marks on it?

The main reason I avoid WD is their site. If anyone can go past this (http://www.wdc.com/products/legacy/Legacy.asp?r=3) page and give us the 313000 specs we will be sure.

However I am posititve that this drive will not do more than 12MB/s sustained although the burst may go up to 60MB/s (aka ATA66).

Use hdparm to test and let us know.
