1. Get a cheap HDD and clone the one you have.
2. Upgrade one to ME and run with it for a few minutes.
3. Clone the backup HDD back onto the primary.
4. Throw away the W98me disc or use it as a coaster or target.
5. Use the second HDD as a backup and develop a routine to defrag and clone your primary on a regular basis.

I think its never a bad idea to back-up...
King_Kooba_Fantastique.
I backed up my whole c drive onto 2nd hdd before going to ME. Glad I did, several weeks later my drive went kaput (not related to win ME) I ended up installing win98 onto 2nd drive and restoring from a backup, I'm using this setup till the IBM warranty comes through with another drive. The backup saved my bacon!

If you do a drive to drive backup and then upgrade Windows you might have problems with windows finding links on the 2nd drive and using them instead of the first and when you start moving/deleting stuff it all goes 'Pete Tong' (Rhyming Slang - you'll get it.) Just make sure you physically unplug the drive when you do the upgrade to ensure you don't have the same problems I had.

Should I back up everything on my hard drive, including my previous version of Windows? I think I might like to try Windows ME out again, because I've got a new video card now and it should work. But I want to be able to go back if I need to.

If you are upgrading from 98SE to ME and have the Upgrade version, you have the option to save your system files from 98SE so you can revert back to it and uninstall ME. I have read that that works like it is supposed to (that is unusual for M$) http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif and will return you to 98SE without a hitch.
