Hi, im new here, but i have a problem that you may be able to help me with... at the moment im about this far |---| from throwing my computer at the wall..

The computer is comprised of a kt7a raid motherboard, with a duron 750 processor, usual ancillaries (geforce3 TD, soundblaster live)

The problem is this.. When i try to install the via service pack, it does nothing, or brings up an invalid page fault in module blah blah blah.. ive reinstalled 4 times, and every time the same thing happens.. i cannot work out for the life of me whats going on..

ive reset to the defaults in the bios (optimal and failsafe) and still nothing.. can anyone shed any light on this phenomenon?

Welcome to SysOpt!

What's a VIA service pack? The 4-in-1s? You can install them in Safe Mode.

it was something in the bios settings =/

neways, its installed now, BUT im still having the original problems that made me want to reinstall in the first place..

I play counter-strike, along with other 3d games and my frames per second are apalling.. especially for the spec of my machine..

Originally i had a geforce 2 64mb, i was getting 40fps in opengl, and about 5 - 10fps in directx... Now i have a geforce 3 TD 64mb, and im still getting 40fps in opengl and 5-10 in direct x, so, yesterday i installed 3dmark2001, for some reason 3dmark wouldnt run unless i put it to software T&L and then it was useless, (graphics card problem one would think) but it was exactly the same with my geforce 2.. so im assuming another route of the problem..

my bios settings are as follows for the agp side of it..

aperture size = 256
agp4x = enabled

is there something im missing?

256? What are the choices? It should be half or less of your memory count. Try AGP 2x too.

hey, Bill... i see you've been promoted to "Resident Dust-Bunny"... :)

I have the same board.. and i am wondering whether you are running Windows XP or not.. my AGP aperture is set at 64mb, even though i have 768 mB of RAM...
If you are running XP, install the Nvidia reference drivers... WinXP in ganes that require OpenGL runs them through a Direct3D interpeter. also, on CS, up the max Framerate to 99 or so. (the HL engine can only support a max of 100 FPS i think....). I guess that you are running a Leadtek GF3 card judging by the TD at the end ... I have the GF2 Titanium ... no problems with mine.... what BIOS version you running?
anyways..

hey, Bill... i see you've been promoted to "Resident Dust-Bunny"... Heh. Apparently, once you get up in the stratosphere, post-wise (over 4000), you are allowed to edit your status field. Nice perk!
