Just looking for recommendations/suggestions for a decent DVD player to add to my home theater system. The only thing I must have in addition to DVD and regular audio-cd play is it has to be able to play my audio cd-rs.
I have seen user reviews at various sites where someone bought a DVD player that purported to play audio cd-rs but when they tried to play one it didnt work.
If anyone owns one like what I'm looking for,I would appreciate a reply.

hhhmmm, i though they would all pretty much play them, any thing that has that multi-function on it right? Why wouldn't a DVD playe not play a cd-r? go to the local computer shops or homw places or whatever, that has DVD players, take along a cd-r and start testing, if someone says anything, just mumble and keep walking, and hunch over a little while your at it.

I have tried CD-Rs at a local electronics store when I was demoing home theater. The salesman had to find the right DVD player that could play it. Do as hallam said: go and try it out in a store. They shouldn't care because they want you to buy it. It might depend on the brand of CD-R. Some are darker than others. In my experience, Memorex CD-Rs were darker and did not work in my portable cd player when Anti-skip mode was on.

I have a pioneer dv-434. It supports dvd's(duh http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif), video cd's, audio cd's, cd-r's and cd-rw's. I think you'll find that most do however.

Though the only thing I've tested has been a sony cd-r. Worked great! I love the new system!

I have the Phillips DVD711 and it works great. Reads all of the formats listed above and has loads of nice features. The only thing that can be a pain is the fast forward comes in two speeds 4x and 32x. They left out the 2x, other than that it is great.

All pioneers, philips, magnavox (same as philips) are capable of CDR/RW.

Most SONY's are not (only top range is).

low range Toshiba and Samsung is not, same for JVC and Panasonic

Best is to take a CDR/RW with you and try it.

oh ****. This thread got me doing some research.

I went in pretty blind buying the dv-434, now I regret it. The salesperson recommended it because it was a simple progressive dvd player. Now I'm reading, and seeing that's it's an over glorified line doubler, and in fact, my sony 36" xbr400 does a better job at it.

I'm troubled. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif
