Intel unleashes fastest Celeron
An 800MHz processor with a faster bus will give up to a 20 percent performance boost for low-cost PCs, the company says.

Unbelievable! Does Intel have a deathwish?
So, if I buy a lot of 1,000, then I can pay only about a hundred dollars extra for chips with less processor power than the Duron's.
Hmmm.. What a bargain!
Just in case any of you might have missed this post, VERY INTERESTING READING!

It is a budget chip when compared to a P4!

I think we tend to forget, (I know I do...) that Intel isn't gearing their product advertising to techs, or even people with intermediate experience and knowledge.
Seems to me like they target the market consisting of harried homeowners/small business people who don't know a lot about computers other than how to run a spreadsheet or get on the 'net - and don't want to know more.
They are happy to press the button, get a light and an image on their screen and that's it. Of course if you had say a 500 mhz machine, then buy a 1.5gig pentislum 4, well it's going to seem like greased lightening, right?
Everyone's happy. They brag how much their "latest technology" machine cost to all of their neighbors, get ooo's and ahhh's and Intel and their big customers are happy too!
I really believe that's their market. We however, who know some to everything about computers will keep AMD alive and kicking!

about time. You gotta be kidding me about the price:
The new 800MHz chip will cost $170 in 1,000-unit quantities
Per pricewatch:
$105 - AMD Thunderbird 800 Socket A
$176 - Pentium III 800 100MHz bus
$71 - AMD Duron 800

Hmmm, so where does this leave me with my Celeron 600 @ 900? Guess I should have waited and spent $180 or so for the slower processor instead of the $75 or so for my 600. Come to think of it, I got my new motherboard and my Celeron 600 for less than one of the "new 800" Celerons will cost. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Just who is in charge of marketing at Intel..

Wow! The intel Sloweron finally made in to 100mhz bus speed! The AMD K6-2 was there 2.5 years ago!
