I want to just put in an old hard drive from my last computer so i can copy off the files to my new computer but when i put the second drive in and boot up it says opetating system not found, nce i disconect it my comp. boots up fine, i have the old drive on what i assume to be the slave port(the one closer to the mobo on the ide cable) i'm just kinda confused at the moment, any help would be appreciated

You must re-jumper the main drive on most drives when you add a slave. It's not a lone drive anymore, but master to a slave.

You know what they say about assume. ;)

If you don't have manuals for both drives, it's best to get the jumper info right from the horse's mouth (the manufacturer's website).

There are jumpers on the rear of the drive that need to be set for the particular role the drive is playing:

1. Sole drive
2. Master - slave present
3. Slave
4. Cable Select (CS). You can always set the jumpers on both drives to CS and try it.

Look at the top of each drive. There is usually a diagram.

some instance mix drive with different brand will not work even your jumper is right c:drive master ,d: drive slave working in the same bus or primary channel you have to move this other to secondary channel.
