Here's a sneak preview of my Oak case http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif I have to finish sanding and add a few coats of varnish, but I had to show it off http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
http://webpages.cableamericahsa.com/Randy48/oak1.jpg http://webpages.cableamericahsa.com/Randy48/oak2.jpg

If anyone has any old ATX cases laying around that are no good/not used, I could use the power switch/LED setup from a couple of them, one for this case, one for my beer keg case that I'll be starting this weekend http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Thanks
Randy http://webpages.cableamericahsa.com/Randy48/oak3.jpg

I forgot, there's 2-120mm fans in the side, 2-90's in the front, 1-90 in the back. There is also a 5 1/4 bay cooler and a slot cooler going in when finished http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Excellent Job Randy!
Do you take orders? I'd really be interested in that beer keg case if it works out!

Thanks for the kind words http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Orders? Not right now lol, On the wood case, I've got to rethink my plans, the keg? That one's going to be a "figure it out as I go along kind of thing!" I'm planning on cutting one end out, mounting 2 PSUs in the bottom with vent holes cut out around the edge, mounting the mobo horizontal, with the floppy and CD coming out the side. I think I'll knock the plug out to run the cables into it. For extreme cooling, I've got a 12 volt car fan to mount on the top (open end) http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif I've still got to make mounts and everything after I cut the end out, I'll mess with it this Saturday http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Randy, watch the finish! Needs to be able to resist the heat variance between inner & outer surfaces. I used clear polyurethane inside, and two light coats of Minwax oil-based wiping stain followed by several coats of clear poly.

My case. (http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Software/5467/case1l.jpg)

Randy48, beautiful work! Congretulations!

From the pictures I get the impression that you built the wooden case around the skeleton of a metal case.

If so, why do you need extra hardware? Why can't you use the switch and lights from the original case?

If not, how do you provide the mechanical support for the motherboard, drives, and other components?

The power/led connector is the "all together" setup that Intel boards use http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif and won't work on an AMD board. I might try cutting them apart if I can't find what I need.

I've already decided to make another wood case once the weather warms up a little, this time I'll build my own frame so I can make it wider. With the mobo/cards in it, it's kind of tight with the dual 120 fans there...trial and error I guerss http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Randy48, correct me if I am wrong. I interpret your answer as if you did base your wooden case on a metal skeleton. Now, if your statement "The power/led connector is the 'all together' setup that Intel boards use and won't work on an AMD board" is correct, then how could an AMD motherboard be used on the original case, wood or no wood?

Does this mean that I should worry about case/motherboard compatibility when I plan my next system?
