I have an ECS K7VZA board that would auto shutoff when Windows 98 would shut down. I also have an MSI MS 6312 board that sould auto shutoff when Win ME shut down. Both of these system will display the "It is now safe to turn off your PC" screen on shut down in a clean install of Windows XP Professional. I think I am missing something. I have two other systems ECS K7S5A, and GA-7VTXH that do the right thing (Power Off). All of these systems are built in the same model Codegen Cases. All but the GA-7VTXH system have the same 350 ATX power supplies. I think it is a setting or option that I keep electing in the install of XP. Please help Me.

That was really helpful ...NOT.

aewithro1 you might try a BIOS upgrade, if you haven't already.

I thought it might have been the video as well, but both systems have different videos. The ECS board has an S3 Savage 2000, and the MSI board has has an ATI Rage Fury Maxxx. Both systems have the most recent Bios offered by the sites.

I shouldn't even respond to Mafiosy, but

W O W !

What an unproductive

Thanks for the rant, but is there a setting that I can change in XP that will enable this feature again?

Easy CD Creator 5 was a known cause of this problem with XP.

Dang fellas, its not a software problem, I talked to a guy whom had a copy of XP home, so to get ride of lock He installed XP pro over top and it shuts down fine.
My system is a Abit BH6 /PIII500 . I have a TnT2 M64 Vanta . Im thinking its something to do with wake on lan. If Popular Bill was here he'd tell us the prob.

try going to the control panel and check power options for an APM tab and check Advanced Power Management. That should do the trick.

Some bios have a selection..something like

"what to do when power off"

the selections are .standby.off.hibernate...

something like that.
If you have that option, make sure it is set to = power off

I think it is in my ecs K7S6A, but not in my K7S5A

You could check in the BIOS under advanced power management and you should see something like video power off method, there is the options blank screen, vsynic, and dpms or something like that it should be the dpms
