what the...??

When I hit shutdown, my computer doesn't shut off properly. It turns itself off, and then immediately restarts......just like if I had selected restart. Once it has completed the shut down, and has just started to reboot, I can hit the power on/off button.....its just annoying.

Anyone have any ideas???
Thanks, in advance, for any comments.:)

Have you installed any new hardware recently??

I had the same problem as your good self after going to broadband, needed an NIC card (this was the problem) the power settings on the card conflicted with XP.

Hope this is of help.

Which OS are you using?

Maybe your motherboard APM it's not compatible with the operating system you're using... or maybe you have something set wrong on your BIOS.

Using Windows 98. Recently installed new mobo (Epox EP-8KTA3L+) but was working OK until yesterday. Downloaded PC Booster from Kazaa, but didn't find it useful for what I needed. Could it have changed settings when it "Optimized Settings". If so, how could a setting like this help to "Optimize" my computer???? I'm not using broadband, just the turtle paced dial-up (yippee....not!) so that probably won't be the issue.

While I've been setting up the new mobo, I've been doing a little manual testing/tweaking in bios.....could I have changed a setting there that could cause it? Or could the PC Booster change a setting within bios?

Thanks again for your help.

It was PCBooster that caused the problem. Don't know why it would need to adjust the power down settings to make my computer run faster, but that's what it had done. After running PCBooster, I wasn't happy with the results, so I deleted the program not knowing what it had done to my power setting. After finding this problem.....and putting a help messgae in this forum.....I reinstalled PCBooster and found an option to reinstall original settings. Thankfully my "original settings" hadn't been deleted with the program and it was able to restore previous info OK......along with my power settings!!! :)

Bye Bye PCBooster I say!:p

Sorry I wasted peoples time with the question.
Cheers for your help anyway guys!:)
