I got a picture now but having trouble installing win 98 goes as far as copying files and says insert cd which is already in then blue screen comes up fatal exception

Do not overtighten the screws again. Use washers if you have them. I like to put only three screws in a mainboard - the two corners toward the front and one by the AGP port. I keep them taut - not tight.
Make sure the CD is not scratched. Any scratches following a circular pattern around the CD are bad, but they can be polished out with a retail scratch remover.
If you have more than one memory stick, take one out and try again. If no joy, replace that one and remove the other.

still having problems finally got windows me installed part of way keep getting windows protection errors
when post comes up says cmos memory wrong, battery low
this is a brand new mobo
when I try to change cmos then I get no video, have to reset jumper to clear cmos
then start all over and load defaults
can't get 133mhz to work with xp1700

It could well be a bad battery. They're easy to replace. It's a standard old watch battery.
Remove all cards but the video card and try again.
Honestly, I would consider returning the board.
