im trying to build a 233mmx computer.in primary ide cable i attached the 4.5 gig hard drive putting the jumper to master,
then i attached the cd rom drive putting the jumper setting to slave.then on the secondary ide cable i attache a 1.5gig hard drive again. is this the right thing to do? need some help again.

Sure! You have two IDE channels; Primary and Secondary, so you can connect 4 devices: Primary Master and Primary Slave + Secondary Master and Secondary Slave (and this tells you the jumper settings for each device) :)

I just assembled a pentium 166mmx,64 mb ram,1.6 gig
with pre-installed win 98.first, it was fine but later it began to
hang even at start up.need help again.

OS IS WIN98 SECOND EDITION,PC COMPONENT IS PENTIUM 166MMX/64MB RAM/I.6 GIG HDD/48X CD ROM.THE PROBLEM,
HANG UP'S EVEN AT START UP.ERROR MESSAGE, KEYBOARD ERROR
AND ERROR IN MEMORY MODULE.

Ok...so BIOS is reporting both an memory error and a keyboard error.
Have you tried another keyboard? Is the keyboard AT-style (large round connector) or PS/2 (small round connector)?
Honestly, in my experience, when a motherboard reports bad memory, the memory is really bad - usually. The other possibility is that the motherboard itself is going bad.
Try clearing the CMOS on the motherboard. There may be a jumper for this. If not, remove the battery for a few minutes. If you cannot find the battery and you can get a keyboard to work, go into BIOS setup and set defaults or failsafe.
