It's fast, powerfull, and easy to use. Roy 01-02-2001, 04:39 PM I use Dogpile (http://www.dogpile.com) . It's 11 engines all at once. Included is GoTo.com, which has dug up some really surprising results. rock8785 01-02-2001, 04:42 PM I would have to say yahoo, because that is what I use the most. GroundZero3 01-02-2001, 04:43 PM yeah roy you posted that site on one of my post today and im really impressed with that search engine. JaYsin [This message has been edited by GroundZero3 (edited 01-02-2001).] wedor 01-02-2001, 05:04 PM Also try copernic. nunyadam 01-02-2001, 07:29 PM copernic is all i use. haven't found any i like better. NDC 01-02-2001, 07:31 PM http://www.google.com/ solidous 01-02-2001, 07:40 PM i can usually find what i need with google, but i often use dogpile, but my favorite used to be www.mamma.com (http://www.mamma.com) , i always used that, but now it seems i cant find anything there thekingofpain 01-02-2001, 07:48 PM Im with Bob and NDC, ive found Google to be most productive, ill casually use Jeeves, but rely on Google... [This message has been edited by thekingofpain (edited 01-02-2001).] brandon184 01-02-2001, 07:50 PM Holy Sh*t (Pardon me..) But this google is unreal! I'm finding EVERYTHING! I typed in my name and came up with almost 400 results... Even my great grandmothers' obituary.. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif Oh well! - Brandon Roy 01-02-2001, 08:22 PM OK. I just downloaded Copernic, installed it, and tried a somewhat esoteric search. It yielded two results, one of which was a dead link. (It claims to avoid these.) The other was slightly off target. I tried the same search with Google, which is not part of Dogpile. NO results. DOGPILE GAVE ME DOZENS OF VALID LINKS! And it's just a website, no special software. I think I'll stay with IT. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Onslaught 01-02-2001, 08:50 PM I like GOOGLE because they dedicate to just searching the web whille all the others yahoo, excite and etc... do so many other things Northern Lights is another very good one. NDD 01-03-2001, 03:49 AM Google-shmoogle ... http://www.37.com How about 37-in-1 search engines ?!?! Best Regards ... Amsterdamn 01-03-2001, 06:31 AM Northern Lights is all I use, worx great for me... jad1097 01-03-2001, 07:56 AM I use The Web Feret (http://www.ferretsoft.com/netferret/download.htm) Missing the point 01-03-2001, 08:17 AM www.hotbot.com (http://www.hotbot.com) is my favorite, because you can make it display 100 results per page ablang 01-03-2001, 10:48 AM Google seems to give me the most relevant results. daveleau 01-03-2001, 10:59 AM Used Copernicus and web ferret but they give too many links usually for my tastes. I use Google. I can find anything there. Dave MAGIC 8-BALL and THE ELF 01-03-2001, 01:23 PM I use the one that finds what I'm looking for. - Elf Search engines are for Earthlings. - 8-Ball Mentor 01-03-2001, 02:49 PM Why don't you try www.topclick.com. (http://www.topclick.com.) Well it's not as good as Google but it has one great advantage - it doesn't use cookies, though it is very "private". Sleep calm after you have done your search ;-)) wilbur 01-04-2001, 12:08 AM i use all sorts of search engines, some are nice, while others are not. the_deacon 01-04-2001, 05:47 AM I would have to say google!!! I'm feeling lucky!!! wyvrn 01-04-2001, 06:53 AM I like yahoo simply because most web pages make it their life's mission to get listed there. wahrez 01-04-2001, 07:41 AM Would have to go with Google too, I've been using it for about a year now and its nice and fast with a good backend. http://www.google.com I've heard some good things about mamma, but never really need to go beyond google. http://www.mamma.com I used to use inofseek in the early nineties, it was really good then, but now its gone pants! SPARKI1 01-04-2001, 09:18 AM I have converted nearly my whole building of 150+ people to use google in 2 months that says something about how a broad range of people can find what they want. How effective a search engine is depends on the search terms used google is very is and very powerfull and i rarely find a dead link which just proves that they spend a lot of effort checking there links. Within 20-50 results i can usually find 10-15 websites of relevence. Don't just try google once by comparing it with other serch engines based on one search use it for a week. Use your normal engine first and see what it throws up then go to goggle and see how much faster you find what you are looking for don't forget to read the tips section as google doesnt use standard serch engine boolean. Google Tips (http://www.google.com/intl/en_extra/help/refinesearch.html#general) sys-eng 01-05-2001, 07:37 AM Northern Lights www.37.com (http://www.37.com) If it is findable on the net, I usually find it with these. OuTpaTienT 01-06-2001, 01:59 AM According to a review recently published by PC Computing, the two best (by far) search engines are Google and Northern Lights. I gave Google a try because of this article and have been using it ever since. I've have found EVERYTHING that I have looked for. Richard_Cranium72 01-06-2001, 05:39 PM Various Search Engines have their strengths and weaknesses.
