I did a search on SysOpt.com for "Promise" trying to find info on the Promise FastTrak 100 disk drive controller. I did find much disturbing feedback in User Reviews on the Ultra 66 card. Problems such as: drives going to sleep while the system is being used (bad for CD burning), compatiblity conflicts -- especially with SCSI, NO system overclocking allowed, and poor techinical support.

I was considering using a Promise card but the feedback is scaring me away. The product reviews in magazines, etc. are great but then they are often very limited.

Do these problems apply to the FastTrak 100 also?

I've been installing Promise Ultra66/100 controllers in systems for quite a long time now. I have never witnessed any problems that were not resolvable with a simple BIOS update or driver upgrade.

Even the Asus A7V features the onboard version of the Promise Ultra100 controller, and I have never noticed a problem. My A7V-based server is practicaly up 24/7 for days on end, and I haven't suffer a single hard drive related issue yet.

I've been using a Promise Ultra100 card now for five months with no problems. I have my second hard drive and also my CD-RW hanging off it.
