G-man632 05-08-2002, 07:37 PM i tried to go to add/remover programs and try to remove it from there but it said my back up files have been modified. So how can i fix that problem? BipolarBill 05-08-2002, 10:06 PM You can't because the Win98 restore files are missing. Did you clean the drive? What's the problem with XP? Let's make it work for you. G-man632 05-08-2002, 11:02 PM i didnt wipe it clean but i did alter some files in regeristry and other systemn files but i dont think i alterd any back ups BipolarBill 05-09-2002, 12:42 AM Ahhh...the Registry may have had a false uninstall string for restoring Win98. Although it's listed there as an uninstall string, it's really not - it's a restore string. A 3rd-party registry cleaner may have seen it as false and removed it. :( G-man632 05-09-2002, 01:13 PM so ur saying that i cant remove XP? BipolarBill 05-09-2002, 02:22 PM Oh you can remove it, but you won't get Win98 back. :( What's wrong with XP? G-man632 05-09-2002, 04:44 PM nothin is wrong with XP just that my comp is too slow (400mhz), i cant play Diablo 2 properly. So if i remove it what will I get? BipolarBill 05-09-2002, 05:01 PM A blank hard drive and no toys! Honestly, you can just reinstall Win98 and all of your stull will still be there. Windows will be in the Windows.001 folder. At that point you can delete the Windows folder. In Documents and Settings you will find your favorites, desktop and start menu. You can just copy the contents of those folders to the ones in C:\Windows.001. My Documents may have been moved to Documents and Settings too. Copy the contents to C:\My Documents. You'll have to reinstall most programs, but some will work. Games should. G-man632 05-09-2002, 06:07 PM so do a full re-install? like format HDD and install W98? BipolarBill 05-09-2002, 06:14 PM No format. Just install Win98 right next to XP. It works. SysOpt.com
