It all depends on where you are. Where do you live? If you wanna really check out your stuff, go to :
www.dslreports.com/stest (http://www.dslreports.com/stest)

they have tons of tests to run, tons of tweaks to do, and tons of other people, possibly in your area , to compare to.
Good Luck

I'm a long way from the servers but I get 1273/686 on the test noted above..on cable..it's faster as a rule, but depends on how many users there are on your particular node at the time...

Hello doodelsak

As for cable, ask a few people around you that have it. It varys as to what company, and where you live.

I have AT&T@home.

Everything is new in this area. At first I had no cap so I could hit uploads as fast as 90KB/s. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif With the cap I hit 109kb/s. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

Oh well, but the good news is I don't really upload that much.

Download hits as high as 700KB/s although thats rare. Downloads here, depend on what server,(as anywhere) and how far away. I have at least 6 hops to hit the main backbone from where I live. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif
