Would like opinions on which Socket A boards are them most stable! Not most OC'able or the fastest or the most bells and whistles BUT the most stable/reliable.

Bonz Peter M 05-07-2002, 03:35 AM For a stable system, you need an adequate power supply, flawless RAM, and proper cooling. That taken care of, you won't find too many inherently unstable mainboards. regards, Peter LostBok 05-07-2002, 05:03 AM Agreed: don't penny-pinch on RAM - biggest mistake you can make! Decent named brand of PSU (Enermax is one of the more available decent quality ones) and reasonable (reliable!) cooling are all that are required. If it helps, the backbone of my main games box is below. This box has been running 24/7 for the last two weeks... I've done the odd reboot due to apps installs, but no crashes/freezes/BSOD's at all. There was a small problem where I couldn't use both USB 1.1 and USB 2 as one of them would clash with the CDRW drive, think it was interrupts, but I just disabled the USB1 and used the USB2 instead - that was six weeks ago, when I got it. A few yrs. ago I put together one using a PCChips 598 board and a K6-3. That thing never did run right. To begin with the CD and manual that came with it were the wrong ones, still can't get a decent download for drivers from thier website. I only wish I'd have known about some of the MB web sites then cause I'm sure I'd have bought a different board. Bonz :( Peter M 05-08-2002, 03:34 AM Having used a handful of 598s myself, I must say these do run right - the same rules I stated above apply. whatever.com.tw sites tend to be slow during certain hours of the day, don't let that distract you. Drivers are best fetched from the respective chip manufacturers anyway, not the mainboard makers. regards, Peter SysOpt.com
