Hi. I have an old PC 200 mmx 96 Ram.
Virtual memory is set that windows manage the virtual memory.
I know that manipulating this can lead to a better performance.
There is 4030 MB of free space on C.
The question is: If I want to specify my own virtual memory, there is Minimum and Maximum. I heard that the virtual memory should be 1.5 the amount of physical memory; Is this the min or max or what should I put there??
Any help is highly appreciated.

I forgot to mention that the OS is Win98 SE, I.E 5.5

The 1.5 is a good ROT. The important thing is to make the min and max the same. This will prevent Windows from resizing the swapfile every time you launch a new application.
You can also fix the virtual disk cache in the system.ini file
[vcache]
MinFileCache=min
MaxFileCache=max
Make the min and max the same value. For your system, set it to 24Mb, or 24576. The value is in kilobytes. This will prevent windows from resizing the disk cache all the time, whether it uses it or not. I have 640Mb on one system and still keep the vcache fixed at 32Mb. After all, how much disk cache do you need?

Hi Jimstep and thanks for your reply.
Do you mean that i set min = 24576
max= 24576 ?
Concerning the vcache in system.ini , I click on it but it's empy.Do I have to edit the vcache in command prompt and add the new value? I mean :MinFileCache=min
MaxFileCache=max
where min and max should be 24576?

Concerning the disk cache,I do not have any problem.. What is the better value ? This should be put in system .ini -vcache- right?

Ok. I made all the modification listed below. Where and when should I notice the performance?
By the way, when i boot my PC, the system resources first has 84% free. Then when browsing or chatting (MSN,ICQ) it drops to 55%. Can anyone help me keeping the system resources high?
Note that the startup in system configuration utility only contains a few things like norton antivirus and Norton internet security and script blocking.

If ur talking about Virtual memory which is a the swap file for the OS. Try using 2.5times of the amout of RAM u have. Set the Min and Max same for better performance in Win98.
Disk Cache (i.e. RAM space for HDD) should be 1/4 ideally so u can set to 24 MBs.
