The pewter I built for my Pal's daughter, Christmas, has expired.

It seems to have contracted the "Smiley Face" Virus.

I had installed the free AV that we discussed lately but it bypassed it, a trogan I suspect.

The first sign to these very new computer users was a falure to boot.

When I tried to "repair" the boot sector during fdisk, 64,000 files were corrupted with symbols.

These varied from smiley faces to palm trees and varied symbols.

It took 3 formats to wipe it clear.

The machine would stop in mid "setup" one time at 22%.

The 3rd time it took and seems fine.

Oddly, the used Quantum Fireball 2.5gb showed 2 bad sectors previously, now NONE.

I wonder if the disc had the virus before and just appeared out of the bad sectors..

Another pal who runs a TV/Computer repair shop right away identified this viurs, said he has seen it before,, ?
