hello everyone!
I have a MSI-6340 motherboard. on the mobo's site, it says it only supports up to tbird 1.2
but on the bios udates, it says that bios 4.7 has AMD Ahlon XP strings.
does it support it????? anyone know this???
even if it doesn't support it. do you guys know/think a duron/tburn only mobo would accept and work with an athlon xp?? even if it doesn't run as an athlon xp??
any ideas? would be a great help :)
thnx

Here's what the Taiwan web site says:
"Support Socket A for AMD® Athlon™/ Duron™ / Athlon™ XP Processors. Supports 800MHz~ 1900+ "
-Added AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ support
-Fixed that Tools\Event Viewer\System\ACPI error when system enters S1 status under WinXP
-Fixed that system cannot enter S3 mode when system has USB device

i forgot to mention something
are you sure this was for the k7tm pro board?
mine would be MS-6340 Ver. 1.0.
i know that ms-6340 ver 3 and up supports. the site leaves that very clear... but it goes cloudy on the ver 1.
thnx :)

but it goes cloudy on the ver 1. Cloudy is an understatement. There's nothing on ver.1 at all in the English/US site.

i looked a little further and yes there is some stuff!!!
look:
BIOSes:
http://www.msi.com.tw/support/bios/bios.php?model=MS-6340
Mobo:
http://www.msi.com.tw/products/mainboard/mainboard.php?model=MS-6340
you had to look under K7TM Pro on "Other" section. very easy (a-HEM) ;)
see? on Bios update to 4.5 it says:
"-Update AMD recommended CPU string for Athlon XP CPU (for MS-6340/MS-6340M ver. 3.0 only)"
my board is the plain MS-6340
BUT on the mobo's page (CPU support) it goes as far as Duron/Thunderbird 1.2Ghz
who to trust??

Like I said, it's hard to tell. Why don't you e-mail MSI?

Try the newsgroup too:

i already mailed'em
no answer nor in their forums, etc, etc, etc...
i'll end up buying the cpu.... if it doesn't work.... i'll sell it again... or trade it.... something.....
do you know if a mobo which doesn't support it may RUN it?
i mean... like ..... underclocked or so???
:)
i'm desperate HWAUWHAUHWAU

Fire up Outlook Express and go to Tools > Newsgroups. Find that independent newsgroup and ask.
