i have a gemlight motherboard and tried to replace graphics card with a nvidia tnt2 5ooo but cant get computer to recognize keeps trying to locate old card. old card was on board i have tried changing jumpers about but doesnt work anyone got any advice

Most integrated graphics today are multi-VGA capable, and don't disable when you add another VGA on the PCI bus. Choose in BIOS setup which of the two is to become your primary display, and then use both or ignore the 2nd one.

went into BIOS the only thing i could find was PCI/VGA Palette snoop it was set to disabled ( vga cards only) tried setting to enabled ( video card on isa and card on pci bus) but still didnt work not sure if there is another part in BIOS i should try

Nope ... chances are that you got one of those many NVidia chip based cards that don't work in multiple VGA situations. The only resort is to use something else. ATi cards are a sure bet for that.
