Hey guys, I was just thinking about buying a new graphics card. Currently, I could take my bro's old 64mb MX400 TV as he's getting some GF4-Ti.
All i really wanna do is play games such as NBA2001, and stuff similiar to Q3/RTCW/MOHAA and maybe a few later games. I only play em on 1024/768 but on 32bit colour. Maybe bout 50-60fps would be alrite for me, but i want it to look decent and run smooth on all levels.

Should i stick to the gf2mx400 or settle for a Radeon 8500 retail and buy something later?

My system:
ECS K7S5A Mainboard
256mb Crucial pc2100 ddr
40gig Seagate HDD
AMD Duron 1200 (non oc'd, juss plain 1200)
Fortissimo II PCI soundcard
48X Sony Cdrom, 4x scsi burner

Cheers

Stay with the geforce and wait until the Geforce 4 Ti4200 comes out.

I think the Radeon 8500 is a great pick. You can also wait for the nVidia G4Ti4200 to come out later this month.

I'm torn between these two cards. And then ATI came out with the ATI all-in-wonder 8500 that has the tv tuner and dual monitor support.

Pricewise, a ATI RAdeon 8500 would be cheaper. Buying the latest card on the market is gonna' cost ya'.

I had a GF2MX400 64MB... It will not give you 60fps @ 1024x768x32... If you go to 800x600x32 or 1024x768x16 it should... Expect to get around 45fps... If you overclock it, you might be able to see 50fps, but it will drop from time to time. The 8500 will definatly blow away the GF2MX card... But I would do what the other suggested and wait until the GF4Ti4200 comes out... You should be able to overclock that to Ti4400 speeds... If your brother is gonna give you that MX400 card... It will be able to hold you over until you get your Ti4200!

The Geforce 4 Ti4200's are farily cheap. They are presaling right now for 175.00. Not too bad if you aske me. I bought my Geforce 3 Ti200 two months ago for 150.00.

Cheers Personally for the Price and incredable performance and DVD I'd go with the Radeon8500 Retail....
It's smooth in games and does 16x Aniso which the Gforce's take a huge hit where as the Radeon doesn't take any .
And now with the new drivers 4x FSAA is extreamly smooth in all games and looks amazing! Clear no Jaggies and extream details..
Ti4600 is the only card I'd buy if I were to get a Gforce 4 card.
But what a price... Two Radeon8500 Retails?? or a Radeon8500 and a Motherboard & CPU ?? For the same price of a Ti4600 ??

Thanks guys....I like what i see in the Ti4200, but for price/looks/performance I had a look atr that 128mb 8500 LE it looks very impressive. It is pretty much on par with a retail 8500 and has twice the memory as well....So it could be of benefit to the future.....And its cheaper....Any comments on tha 128mb 8500LE ?

The 8500LE is a little lower in performance. The extra 64mb is to run at very high resolutions. Whether your monitor will run those resolutions(at a good refresh rate) is another question.
