does an AMD XP 1700+ run at 1.7 Ghz?

no, an xp1600 runs at 1.4ghz, an 1800 runs at 1.53ghz. I know because I was trying to choose between the two. As for 1700? I really dont know off the top of my head... some where between 1.4ghz-1.53ghz so... maybe 1.47?

The XP 1700+ runs at 1.467Ghz. AMD uses the model number as a way to tell you what speed it runs at if it were an Intel processor. It is part of their marketing campaign to educate people. The speed of the processor doesn't dictate how much work the processor will do. Anyway, this was probably more info than you were asking for...
