Are the drivers for the RAID controller installed in Windows?

Is there an array established or are you going non-RAID?

Is the Seagate installed as a third drive added to an existing array?

This is a strange scenario because when I had my KT7A-Raid motherboard I had move the hard drive to another machine, load XP on, then put it back into the machine I wanted it in...;)

I never did figure this out and probably never will...

Is the drive actually connected to the RAID controller or the "normal" IDE ports?

the "NORMAL IDE", whats really wierd is that although windows 98SE WILL install - it keeps automatically rebooting as soon as GUI loads up - perhaps there is some sort of HDD error?? anyone got any thoughts?

Just for the heck of it, try installing with the drive while connected to the RAID controller. Don't forget to install the RAID drivers with F6. We'll test the viability of the drive at least.

I would advise formatting the drive during the install.

Re-formatted several times - and have also tried with HDD on RAID set up - i press F6 as much as i like but it just gets ignored -- im perplexed

Ignored? Aren't you prompted for a floppy with the drivers on it for the RAID controller?

Gosh, I think we have found the problem! Download these:

http://www.highpoint-tech.com/Win2k_XP_v2.0.0919_370.zip

Unzip to a blank floppy. The next time you run setup, press F6 when you see that message at the bottom of the screen and you will later be prompted for the Storage drivers.

The term RTFM applies here. ;)
