Nbench Error on Caldera

We are trying to run nbench-byte-2.1 on Caldera on an IBM PC. We get the following error :

/usr/i386-linux/bin/ld : cannot find -lc
make : * * * [pointer] Error 1

Please help!

We have tried running the test on another PC before and it work perfectly.
