Hi everyone:

I am trying to get the search assistant to work. I am using XP and I goto start\search\search internet. When I search for anything it stalls out. This happens on every PC. If I goto start right click\propertise and change it to classic style. The internet search works everytime.

Anyone know how to get it to work with the new XP GUI for the search assistant?

Okay here is the deal, I found out that when I use a proxy in my IE browser the search internet does not work. If I do not use a proxy the search internet works.

I have to connect to a proxy, and it looks like the "start\search
internet" does not use a proxy. Anyone know the reg setting or hack so I can get the search to use the same proxy settings??:D

I believe that MS should be able to help you with that by using IEAK:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ieak/default.asp

I'm pretty sure that the proxy settings for it are global. Contact them. They will be getting a lot of money from y'all!

Thanks for the link:

I tried this an unfortuantly it didn't work. There has to be something in the reg that I can change so the search tool will use a proxy.

This is not the IE search but the windows search in XP. It has the option to search the internet, that part does not use a proxy.

I have to assume that this is a bug in IE6 because proxy settings are handled by IE, right? The setting should be global.

Why don't you write MS about this? They need to know. I can't find a thing about this particular problem. :(

Yeah..Thanks for your help. I know IE handles proxies but XP is now geared up to look like IE. I can connect via a proxy no problem through IE and if I don't connect through I have no problem and the XP search tool will work. Its odd I know. Maybe we have to upgrade our proxy server.

Thanks agin for the help. :)

Are your proxy setting right in IE properties?
