Strat 05-02-2002, 10:52 AM What, like I pay you to OC my computer Athlon XP ??? What ? WayneD 05-02-2002, 01:40 PM yes that would be the concept. bunkskunk 05-02-2002, 03:03 PM Not sure what you have in mind, but if you mean to unlock my athlon xp I would be interested. Only problems are that it would be hard to get people to pay much since chips are cheap and unlocking it doesn't guarantee that the machine wll overclock more than before. Also, what are people supposed to do after they send the chip to you? I'd rather buy a new chip than be without my puter for several days. Now, if you can train pizza delivery folks to unock my chip when they are dropping off a pizza, that would work! :) Strat 05-02-2002, 03:28 PM Then, uh no. If I knew bugger all, but was so determined that my Comp was gonna be OC'd that I would pay for it. I'd come to a nice cool place, like Sysopt and read alllllllllllllll about it. The only real ***** about OCing is the time it takes to get the greatest stability, the good old process of trial and error. jmichna 05-02-2002, 05:11 PM Originally posted by WayneD yes that would be the concept. Coupla' questions dat needs answers foist: who is liable if you screw up and damage the cpu while doing the bridges? how does a cpu damaged during the OC bridging attempt get replaced? do you test and guarantee a certain level of overclockability before shipping back the cpu? do you establish the vcore and max fsb settings to be used (or at least the ones you used when you tested the bridged cpu)? Those are the kinds of things potential customers might want to know. :D Jimstep 05-02-2002, 06:49 PM Not sure there is a market out there for this type of service. Most folks that oc, do it for the joy of doing it. bassman 05-02-2002, 07:55 PM I agree with Jimstep; additionally, there's a whole bunch of webpages explaining how to do it right and safe, so I beleive most people will search how to do it before asking for help. Anyway, if anyone still has any questions, I know this site...I believe it's www.sysopt.com ; they answer it all ;) gibsinep 05-02-2002, 10:24 PM If I am going to pay you to unlock it so I can overclock it a little higher; why don't I just take the money I payed you and buy the chip with the speed I would be overclocking it to? And No I know how to unlock a Xp have done it a few times. WayneD 05-03-2002, 12:04 AM Sorry but been away the majority of the day.... Firstly I am not looking at this as a service I might provide as simply too busy with ....??? and really no time to devote to such a proposal. Was simply interested in your views on the subject. The points noted are quite good and thought out. In particular a service of this nature would require the chip out of service for an undue length of time given the transportation requirement. In todays world of instant gratification this would certainly pose a big problem and one I know I can relate to. The other good point is one of liability for a damaged chip, I doubt you could charge enough to cover this occurance never mind the shipping cost to and fro. I think your right given the points raised thus far cost, liability, and time would prevent this type of service from being much of a success. Having said this there will be those of us (not me) who are patient, non technical, risk averse(prepared to accept liability) and indifferent to the cost who just might be interested in this kind of an offering. If the last point were true I suppose they would simply fork out the $$$ to buy a better chip..... It was a thought and I appreciate the feedback everyone provided. Strat 05-04-2002, 02:21 PM Also, people wouldnt want to send their chips for your to unlock/ overclock as this violates their warranty. I just don't thik this idea would work. SysOpt.com
