have heard good things about both, I was ready to by a Maxtor 80GB for 130.00 shipped when I noticed the Segate 80BG was 118.00 shipped with a 25 dollar mail in rebate. So here is my question, is one of these drives better for overclocking? I do not mind spending more if I am going to get more out of it. The IBM hdd I have now will not let me overclock for SH**. But if the Segate will let me get to 133fsb and beyond I would rather that..

In my experience, Seagate drives handle OCing better than Maxtor drives.

Me too Bov...it's just that I have a Diamond Max 917xxxx drive that cannot run DMA and OC without locking. That left a sour taste in my mouth. Good drive otherwise. ;)

Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 60 GB Rocks, no other drive comes close to this one:D

I would advise you MAXTOR
I've having a lot of trouble with SEAGATE (even with their Wizard boot disk)
All the computers at work are shipped with them, and most of the times the only solution is to replace the defective hard drive.
It's happening one time to many!

Generally, Maxtors have a higher failure rate, like the Maxtor 30Gb 7200RPM drive, if I remember, all of those were bad, and Ive also had two Maxtors fail on me, a 250Mb and a 4Gb. I just ordered my first Seagate, a 40Gb Barracuda IV (7200RPM), is this a good drive ?

In performance , heat control and noise, the Seagate IVs are very good. I haven't heard of any failures yet.

Time will tell.

Maxtor,seagate, I've run both. They are both good drives. The maxtor 30gig 7200 rpm are bad. I had one I know. I went to exchange and they had none left only the 20gig and 40gig Hmmm! But they gave me a 40gig 7200rpm even up for it so no complaining there.:D They can all fail. Some models mare than others but no brand is flawless! :(

Well in that case I will add that my Maxtor 40gig has had no probs. following the sys up to 120fsb!:D

I find seagates are great but I always found them a bit slower, I have a maxtor 40Gb 7200rpm UDMA 133 and its not bad but i prefer WD.
