Need Help!!!

I recently purchased a computer kit from Tigerdirect.com, (mistake?) it was a barebones kit. Just add processor, memory & HD. Went together fine but will not boot. Keep getting hung at Verifing DMI data Pool. I searched all of the archives here, and tried all of the suggestions, all to no success. It will not boot from the Floppy, HD or CD-Rom. When I try to boot the first screen showns the HD, Processor and Memory, when it gets to the screen that hangs it shows no memory, no HD installed. I am at a loss ans cannot find help from tech support. Any ideas??

I have an idea. Send it back. T-D really bloze.

OK....I feel better.

The problem is the IDE subsystem. It's not picking up the drives. Try flipping the floppy cable over at the drive end. Double-check the jumpering on the hard drive. WD drives need all jumpers removed when they are alone on the cable.

Check the motherboard manual for the "clear CMOS" steps. Clear the CMOS according to them.

I think you opinion of TD is right, people swear by the place but it isn't impressing me. I tried you suggestion but still have the same problem.
Thanks

I just spent two days off and on fixing an old comp with new harddrive, had the same problem this is what I found....

1. memory stick was incorrect for computer

2. BUT the main problem was the cpu would fail under load, it would post but I could not load anthing from floppy or cdrom and would sometimes give error message on memory or show nothing installed.

I know you installed cpu and memory but try changing them if you can.

Tiger Direct I stay far away heard to many stories.........

After finally getting through to tech support, and explaining the problem, they finally agreed that it was broke! Shipping me another one ( whoopee!! ) better luck this time. as for future dealings with TD, I think not.

I found a much better alternative for bundled stuff than Tiger:

They've always been good to me - four years running.

BiPolorBill- You said to remove the WD's jumper if it's the only HDD. Does this make it work better?

BipolarBill

No..it just makes it work. ;)

When you turn a jumper sideways in most drives, it's just a storage position. It's not really doing anything. WD drives need to be jumpered just so - no jumpers for lone master and certain jumpering for master w/slave (depending on series). Whenever I have a problem with a lonely WD drive, I just yank off all jumpers and it works every time. I have a few of them too.

Oh.....well my WD20gig ATA66 is "working" fine. So, I guess I'll leave the jumper as it is. Thanks for the info....dawgtuff.

Just got a second replacement from TD. This one is doing the exact same thing. I have tried using a different HD and different memory and still the same thing. I finally got through to tech support at TD ( ha-ha). They refered me to I-Sys tech support ( bigger ha-ha). Thier tech said it sounded like it had a problem and asked me what parts I wanted him to send me. (Some support that was). Is it possible that my CPU just happened to **** out at the same time? The system still begins POST and freezes at "VERIFYING DMI DATA POOL" . It still recognizes the memory but at the locked up screen it shows no HD installed. I'm lost and tired of printing UPS label to ship these things back! Since it was a clearance item i'm not sure about refund.

Thanks for all the suggestions,

Ed

None of your post has said that you tried a different cpu unless I missed it.

Yes it is possible your cpu is bad do you have ANY cpu you can try in this unit that you know for sure is good? The CPU is what was wrong in my earlier post on a comp I was working on it did the exact same thing yours is doing. You tried everything else why not change the cpu what do you have to loose.....if it dos'nt work, at least you can be sure you have tried all.

Good luck

I browsed thru newegg's site, and I did like thier prices. Now since I do have to get a new CPU can someone tell me what is the the fastest CPU this motherboard will support. I have contacted the manufacturer (Procomp) but gotten no response. It is a
Procomp BST1M-E-13AO
SIS630 Chipset
SOCKET 370

Thanks for all the help,

Reny,

I had a few mins and happened to find a link to another Procomp site. This one had everything for all of their MOBOs. It is hard to navigate but was well worth it. If anyone else need it.
