I'm building my first computer!! YEE HAW.
I'm looking for some friendly help.
I'm building a 1gig Tbird. 128 ram. On a abit k7 mobo. 30g harddrive. I need the following items....
1) a sound card
2) a good video card
................... CHEAP !!!
Any do's and don't will be GREATLY WELCOMED!

PS... What's the difference between a 250w power supply and a 300w ??????? And what exactly is a "heatsink"?

Thought that was what it was, wasn't sure what it was called.

What about the " Power Supply" thing? Whats the difference between 250w and a 300w?

Going to use the computer for school mainly. Sound card i was looking at was the SoundBlaster Live.
The vid card ??? I hear lots of good stuff about the G-Force? Which one? Not TOO expensive... middle of the road price.

What exactly is your budget for sound/video ?
Someone who can afford 1 GHz T-Bird, can probably go for SB Live! Platinum, and some geForce2 GTS based video with 32 MB DDR memory ...
Return with info about tasks you want to be able to perfrom with that computer of yours ...

Do's and don'ts eh? well Don't get an aureal vortex II card, aparently they have problems with the kt7, I've heard that GeForce 2 based cards are good Such as here: http://ocie.safeshopper.com/39/402.htm?203

a heatsink is a bit of metal cut with fins and used to dissiapate heat, they generally have a fan on them nowadays
