I have a computer that is loading random files at startup, here are some examples:
CTB8213.EXE
FUL22D2.EXE
XKK5092.EXE
GUL22D2.EXE
I have searched McAfee & Symantec site and have not come up with a hit. I also used Google and didnt get a hit.
Everytime this machine is booted up (Win98), some new program is running. When I kill it with CNTL+ALT+DEL, the file disappears from the system.
Next bootup, another filename is generated and running, all of these are in the C:\WINDOWS dir.
Anyone?

I have not a clue.
This sounds like virus activity or an attempt by the system to complete some sort of software installation. Had you installed any software just before the advent of these event? IE upgrade, perhaps?

You may want to run a virus scan if you haven't already done so...

Already ran virus scan. updated .dat files.
Other systems in the network are infected with the KLEZ virus, but so far the only machine that is creating these programs is not infected by Klez, or shows no other signs.
Going to use Norton's Klez removal tool today on other machines, and rescan the one with the random files running.
I was able to copy off three of these random files to floppy, before they dissappeared, and put on the write protect, but now what do I do with them?
If you right click on the files and choose properties, does it give you any info ?

Can check tonite, they are at home.
Keep us posted. I would also do an online scan just for the heck of it.

Also, check your startups. Go to start/run. Type in msconfig. Startup tab. Look for the exe's there. If you find them, uncheck, then reboot.
