I have a duron 800 in my system. My mobo mfgr. (dfi) says that my board will not support the morgan duron. The board is an AK-74EC w/KT133 chipset. What is the morgan & why will it not work?

Thanks

Durons 1.0 and above. Adds SSE instructions and data-prefetch. It's a newer core. They probably havent made too many KT133 BIOS's for the newer cores.

just look at it this way, If a board suppors Morgan cores it suppors Palomino Cores.. and Vice Verse...

That's not true, or at least not always true. My pre-rev1.3 Abit KT7A works with Morgan but can't work (100% stable) with Athlon XP (Palomino) coz Abit dudez were probably on some hangover when they planned the board :( :( :(

So has anyone successfully put a morgan/duron in a board that is supposedly not compatable? I was going to buy a duron 1.2 for $60. What would happen if I put the chip in anyways, would it just not POST or damage the cpu?

Thanks you.

Yes, pre-rev1.3 KT7A doesn't support Athlon XP !!!
Something to do with timing problems
