Hi there. I am just getting started again in personal webpages. Is there a cheaper way to go to make flash intros to a page other than macromedia's flash program? I looked around and it costs 300 some dollars! Way to much for me to spend on just for fun stuff..Any help would be greatly appreciated!

As Far as I know, you're going to just have to settle for Macromedia Flash to make the flash into page or something similar to it.

An alternative would be to use a GIF animation program, but I'm afraid the size of the GIF will be too big compared to Flash format FLA for people to view your page that doesn't have a broadband Internet connection.

You need flash. Its kind of like asking, "How can I use a computer, without buying a computer?"

I purchased it, and if I decided to start up my own business making flash content, if I was good enough, the software would overpay for itself after my first customer.

no I can come to your rescue there is a great program called SWISH it uses the Flash engine and is 10 times easier to learn...I made my 1st movie in less than 20mins from D/Ling the demo. you can use the demo all you want but it wont export...but when I bought it, it was only $30 bucks..so u cant beat that....I have 1.5 but they just released a version 2 and it dose quite a bit more but not sure on the price..but I know its cheap. http://swishzone.com/

I found it a few months ago I posted it here I belive...but its great...I can't belive macromedia let them use the engine...I mean SWISH works 4 just about everything a normal person would want, to do with a webpage they have to be loosing FLASH sales to this program...

I have seen some truly amazing pages done with this program...btw I need to correct what I said above...version 2 has not been released its still at beta testing...but it will include the abilty to do animations.

also check out http://www.flashkit.com there is quite a bit about SWISH there...check the forums...there is always people posting links to their sites...see what others do with it.

Swish is like a side-thing for Flash. Its for creating text effects in flash. If you want to create something other than text effects, or add any legitmate actions into it, forget about it.

well the program is somewhat limited but its a stand alone, Flash is not needed to use this program...but they are doing the beta testing for version 2 and it will add a lot more to the program...as it is limited when u compare it to Flash. it still allows for use of images and text movies. It's great for someone that just wants to do simple Flash stuff and doesn't want to spend the $300 (or what ever Flash 5 costs) to do it.IMO its well worth the 30 bucks.

Hi, so what would I lose from using the Swift instead of buying the Macromedia flash program? Is it major? Oh and what is the deal with Macromedia's academic versions? I went on pricewatch and noticed that they are full version but only cost 100?? Compared to the 300 I would really like to know the diff? Thanks a lot!!

well I don't know Flash good enough to tell you what you would miss...but generally the academic versions of programs are the same as the real program...its just you have to prove your a student and most of the time you have to sign as agreement stating you will only use the program to learn with, and not to make money.

Adobe has a program that does what Macromedia Flash does. Being familiar with Flash4, I tried out Adobe LiveMotion and I couldn't believe what thieves they are! Everything is almost the same, except the GUI. Keyframes, symbols, the whole bit.

Well, this isn't helping you guys find your software because you guys are probably aware of the $$$$ that Adobe charges for their programs. But I just wanted to let you guys know about it.

Swish is great for text effects. But if you can find Flash on the internet for yourselves, it'll blow its companion Swish out of the proverbial water.

i guess you don't need to learn DHTML or JavaScripts when you can just use FLASH or Swish.
