I currently have a Volcano 5 on my Athlon XP 1600+ (no o/c)
The temperature is a bit high, @ 51 degrees C under normal windows operation.
If I can get a HSF to cool the CPU better, then great, but I'm more interested in getting a more quiet one.
My Volcano5 runs like a tank, well it makes noises like a tank. Although its db level seem pretty low compared to other products, I'm having lots of trouble concentrating under such noises.
Anyway, I just hope my HSF can run like a the noise level of a mere heatsink, at least close to it...
Thx in advance.

Im in pretty much the same position. I got a couple of Links which may prove useful - here's (http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/01q2/010521/cooler-29.html) a link showing comparisons between all the popular heatsinks. One that really caught my eye was the Noise Control Silverado (http://www.insideproject.com/showreview.cfm?reviewid=45) , but I'm finding it difficult to locate one here in the UK.
I've also found this link (http://www.oc-shop.com/website/shopshow/index.php3?shop=oc-shop&productgroup=hfcombo&productsubgroup=socket_462&nav=heatsink%20%26%20fan%20combo%20>%20socket%20462) showing some other "quiet" heatsink+fan combos.
If anyone knows anywhere else that sells the Silverado let me know!

I think your temps are high, also. My 1.4Gb TB runs at 51°C. Check out the new cooler master heatsink that has heat pipes technology in it.

Extremely pleased with Thermalright AX-7 coupled with Sunon 80mm/3900rpm/50cfm fan. Relatively quiet (much more so than my old Thermalright SK6/60mm Black Delta 7000rpm screamer) and it cools 9°C cooler (at 100% cpu output) than the SK6!

The coolmaster with heat-pipes is an excellent HSF... I have one on a 1.333 gig tbird, and it keeps in VERY cool even under full load... It isn't exactly quiet though, but I'm pretty use to the noise... Another good one is the Volcano7+ The fan has a switch that controls its speed... (Low, Medium, High) Low IMO does not cool well enough... Medium is more than enough if you're not overclocking, and its not loud either... HIGH comes in handy when you're overcloking and need the extra CFM, but it comes with a price... NOISE. Since you're worried about noise, I would recommend the Volcano 7+... It cools really well, and on medium its considerably quieter than the coolmaster HSF.
