Hey, finally i am building my new system, 1Gig tbird, 128MB Ram, SB Live value, prophett II 64MB DDR, 20Gig 7,200 RPM HD, 16x DVD, 17" monitor. Not sure about mobo or speakers yet. Will probably end up with Cambridge Soundworks 4.1 surround, or would a 5.1 system be better, the brand i have found is "yamada", sounds like a cheapo brand to me. Which would be better?

gonna be putting together a 1Ghz myself within the month. As for speakers... I'd go with the Cambridge Soundworks FPS2000 if you want to save some money... I've had them since beginning of 2000 and they're great! If you don't care about spending the money, by all means, go with the 5.1 !!
Mobo... I keep hearing either the Asus A7V or the Abit KT7 Raid/Non-Raid.

The only alteclansing speakers i have been able to find are just standard 2 satellite + sub combo's, no surround stuff. The 5.1 "yamada" actually are the same price as the cambridge 4.1's, this is what makes me think the 5.1's are a cheapo style set up. They look really cool but dunno how they sound, i like alot of bass and dunno if it would be good enuff. I will most likely go out tomorrow and have a good test between them and the cambridge's. Also the cabridge come with stands for the rear speakers and i don't think the yamada's supply stands. Shall let everyone know how this system comes along.

That sounds like a nice system. If you are going to go for some good speakers, why not get a SBLive X-Gamer 5.1 or MP3+ 5.1? They are just a little bit more than the value card and you are sure to have good support for those speakers. i have a duron 650 @750 right now on a Asus A7V. Great board. I do not miss the ISA slot that the abit and some others have. Good luck with your new system!

First, get an ABIT mother board. Second, if you can afford it, get a good 5.1 compatable reciever/amp, some boss speekers, and monster cable to put it all together, simply breathtaking sound.

i'm only just gonna be able to scrap up enuff $$ at the moment for how it is. May look at getting the player version instead of the value version of the sb live, but i dunno, i will be happy with the system how it is for now i think. Anyways, i woulda been ordering it today, except i am waiting a phone call back from someone, so either the person i spoke to didn't pass on the message or the person just don't wanna ring me!! grrrr. So looks like will have to wait till tomorrow now :-(

Should be able to have all parts for me by tuesday (**** suppliers closed for chrissy/new years, sheesh where i work we don't ever close! open 24 hours a day every single day of the year). So yeh hopefully in like umm 5 days time or sumfin i should be typing this from a kick *** system.
