ok i got an MSI K7T266 Pro2 motherboard! which i hear is quite good and yeah easy to do a lot of overclocking on, which i have done. FSB is 144MHz. (AMD XP 1700+)
SO today i decided to update (flash) my bios which i did and it all worked very nicely. So i was thinking ok lets use same setting as before.............. buuuuuuummmmmm windows xp tried starting then error message saying /system/ folder could not be found please use repair...........
i nearly got an heart attack thinking i F8cked something up... as usual.
ok set fsb to 136 started all normal. Ok to see if is stable i used 3dMark2001, it crashed at the second demo..... unstable, me nearly crying, my brother saying download first driver for motherboard, me do me install now everything back to normal, system super stable at 144 FSB.
does anyone know WHY? the newer bios makes my system more unstable and the first one runs everything allright???
WHy oh WHy

Because! ;)

I've seen bad BIOS revisions b4. I'm sure that I'll see more. It's always a good idea to back up your old BIOS during the flash. Ya never know...

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. That's what VIA and Award will tell you on their websites. Unless you have a problem due to the BIOS being out of date, it is usually a good idea to leave well enough alone.
