keyboard ,mouse and joystick locked when playing games

I finally had a little spare time to play a game the other day when this problem appeared. The controls on my joystick are locked and on. I had another post about the joystick but found out that the keyboard and mouse are locked also. What I mean by locked is that when a game starts ( I tried Asteroids and Rogue Squadron) the ships are firing, turning, thrusting and flying in circles. I cant change any of the controller settings and I cant configure the joystick in control panel/ gaming options. The controls in gaming options are all lit up and locked. I also can't calibrate it with the joysticks software, same thing, the joystick will not configure and the controls are locked.
I even purchased a serial to USB connector but the problem is still there.
I checked for updates From Gravis and went thru there trouble shooting section. Everything was set to there specifications even the Creative Gameport Joystick settings are configured correctly.
And of course the gameport for SB Live and gaming options for the joystick show everything as functioning properly with no conflicts.
I'm out of ideas and I need some suggestions.
