What are you trying to accomplish? Are you planning on retiring the master or do you have plans for it?
When WinXP boots up, it goes by
1. Controller
2. Drive
3. Partition
If you move it, it won't boot unless you switch the slave to the master role afterward.
If you tell us your intentions, we may be able to help you better.

You should use Norton Ghost or PQ Drive Image to transfer "Disk to Disk" from the current master to slave. Once done, remove the master or reverse their roles long enough to format it or just delete the partition(s) in preparation. The larger drive should now be working with XP. If you removed the master, put it in your new machine and format the it. If you reversed roles and formatted the slave drive, it's ready to be used in the Linux machine.

Norton Ghost 2002 supports WinXP NTFS while 2001 supports Win2K NTFS. NTFS changed with XP and older products cannot work with the new one.
While you can image NTFS partitions and mixed drives with Ghost, you cannot store that image on an NTFS drive. You must store it on a FAT32 partition/drive because the Ghost cannot write to NTFS drives. Ridiculous, isn't it?

What brand are these two hard drives?
You can copy the old one to the new one with the software that came with the new drive...:D
Not sure about NTFS though.

I always use Maxblast from Maxtor BUT it isn't compatible with NT 4, 2000 or XP. I guess that means no NTFS.
