anyone know the reason why certain places like www.networksoulitions.com (http://www.networksoulitions.com) charges $35 per domain name yet I have seen others as low as $15 per name....anyone know any reason for this other than network solutions just charging more? do they do something more for you or are they just ripping you off...lol

btw feel free to post any cheap domain name places I'm about to register several names so I want to keep it as cheap as I can...thx

they just charge more because of the name. they are way down on the list of good ones to deal with.

have you done a search for them on the web??

there are also others out there that have a good as rateing as this one. just make sure you read the fine print!!!

yea I did a few searches found a few really cheap ones but just wasn't sure if there was a reason some places charge more...I kind of figured it was because they are more popular so they can get away with it..but wanted to check things out before hand, just to make sure.

I know a good one if you need a webhost too. http://www.readyhosting.com ... $99 annual charge with free domain name registering/renewal every year for as long as you're with them. Readyhosting was among the top 5 webhosts when I checked last month. They support a whole bunch of APIs too.

If you don't need a webhost though... sorry I can't help you out.

Hi, I was just wondering...I really don't know much about getting your own domain and stuff. Just know how to surf it http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

If I do goto places like networksolutions for instance, does that mean that I need to get someone to host it?? Meaning, if I get the domain name, that is only the name right?? No space or anything to put up a page? Thanks for your help..

tw1112, correct, if your thinking about doing a web site, you might want to reserve/purchase the name before someone else grabs it. Then you'll want to find someone to host it for you.

Ty for the info guys....well I' not 100% who is going to host it...yet..there is a computer store around the corner that will host..they are on T-1 lines and are pretty reasonable... but my goal is to host it myself..I'm close enough to get a 1500/1500 DLS line possibly the 2500/2500 but not 100% on the second one.

BTW I'm planning on setting up a gaming network of sites...that will cover several games mostly all 1st person style shooters.

there will be a main site that will cover all the games with just general info...then I will have several that cover each specific game its self.

Has anyone used readyhosting? They sound kinda too good to be true....and I have lived the saying of that one. It seems like some places charge 20-50 a month while readyhosting charges 99 a year? Any thoughts for a beginner like me??

For those in the Uk:

www.easily.co.uk (http://www.easily.co.uk)

Here you can get .co.uk domain names for £9.99 for 2 years, comes complete with 20 email forwarding addresses.

£35 gets you a .com domain, with a FREE .co.uk domain. Again, you get 20 email forwarding addresses for the .com and .co.uk

Easily don`t care if it`s for business or personal use, and you don`t have to transfer the domain to your host. You can keep it with Easily, and just supply the real url to your host. Changes to you account can take a few hours, but otherwise I`ve found Easily very good!

The nice thing is, if you decide that your webhost isn`t performing as well as you want, you can change it whenever you want, then goto the Easily website, and use the form to change the webhost url.

One other thing, even though your just forwarding people onto an address, you can choose to mask the webhost address. The end user will not see the real url for your site, just the one you bought form Easily.

Well, that`s just my experience! £9.99 for 2 years? amazing!

TD.

Or does anyone have any experience with dreamhost.com? They seem to be very reputable. Any input on this? THanks
