Hi -
Having a problem with my Radeon VE Card/Driver. When I go to a full game I get a "double screen" The upper part is compressed and brighter. This happens when I go full screen on Space Cadets. Also it happens when I am at 256 color and 640 x480. At 32 bit 800x400 all is okay. I have re-installed the driver many times. Have even done a full format and re-install.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
Jim

Welcome to SysOpt ! :)

May sound a bit obvious, but did you try another driver ?! Does it also happen in another games you're playing ?

At 32 bit 800x400 all is okay.

It may just be a solution. Besides, many newer games don't like "256 colors" setting.

The refresh rate used by the video mode is too high for your monitor. Check your display properties - set the monitor type to "plug&play", or install the .INF file provided by the manufacturer and choose the right model.

Actually I stumbled across the fix yesterday on my own. But you are right it was the refresh rate. I had the graphics adapter set to optimal rate which turned out to be 120 mHz. I changed it to adapter default and all works fine now.

Thank you for your input

"Adapter default" usually gets you 60 Hz. Better get the monitor type right, and set back to Optimal. Windows will then automatically disallow settings outside the monitor's capabilities.

Or set to 75 or 85 Hz fixed rate. Either way, that'll be nicer to look at than 60.
