ok guys, try this one.
my neighbour has just had a P.C. delivered and the system recognises the HDD only 3 out of every 5 boots (approx).
The system does its post test the an error message "system disk failure insert system disk". I had a look in the bios and saw that the HDD was not recognised so I took the cover off and made sure all the leads were tight to the HDD.I rebooted and the HDD was recognised and the system booted fine.!!!

On subsequent re-boots it is random wether it boots or not - maybe - maybe not??
I wanted to speak to the support people at the pc suppliers but they wont speak to me only the owner of the P.C.
I say the HDD is faulty but they are messing him about somthing chronic!!.
does anyone back this up that the HDD is dodgy?

Sounds most likely to be the IDE cable going from the Mobo to the HD. I`ve had cables that look fine, not damaged in any way, but refuse to work. It`s usually the crimped plug on the end.

Try a new cable first, they are pretty cheap. Don`t send the computer or HD back just yet, it might take them ages to get the system to returned to you. Go get a cable, and try it, it`ll be quicker for you to do that, and your friend won`t be without his system for an extended time.

TD.
