My friend has brought his computer over to lan up, after trying to boot windows XP pro, it halted on the start up and keep restarting no matter what we selected - Safe mode/Normal.
We then tried to reinstall XP where we discovered that is would load the blue screen and hang, we then used a win 98 boot disc to format his HD then we tried again with XP then win 98 which would do the scandisc and get into the setup screen but then come up with error of currupt cab files, user.exe. We have since tried swapping ram, hardrives, cd roms, formatting on Mine and passing it back to him. All with the same effect. My friend has 2 hds and both won't let us install on them - both have been formatted to ntsf and fat32. At this stage when we try to load XP it gets to loading "Kernel Debugger DLL" and hangs. We are stuffed on what to do now... plz someone help us, we would like to have atleast 1 game tonight, thanks it advance

This must be a known problem. Try this link at MS to see if it helps you. (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?id=kb;en-us;Q310064)

What is your system configuration? I had a hell of a time doing a fresh install on an ECS board, had to disable all on board periperals, only use 64mb of RAM and even disabled CPU cache before it worked. I will never buy another ECS board again, switched to MSI and boom first attempt nothing disabled and it loaded and was worked great ever since. :D

well we found the problem after 10 hours of testing, we discovered much to our horror that we have damaged the L1 cache, I tried my processor in his Comp and it booted. We have a feeling that we did the damage by fitting a new volcano 7 + to his 1.4. SO BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU FIT NEW FANS, I also have a feeling that I have damaged mine, not to the same extent but it could be causing problems in mis reading my hardrive and flickering during play. I hope not but it's a big possibilty...
MAN! oh well such as life and it's experiences.

ps. can you fix your cpu cause were not in the mood for spending $260 + on new cpu :(
