Im lookin at the Mouseman Wheel, cuz my PS/2 Intellimouse is crappin out on me..Well Ive seen a PS/2&serial model and a PS/2&USB model for 3 bucks more...what kinda advantages does USB have over the PS/2 besides the fact you can use it on a MAC too? (ive never even seen a mac in my lifetime so thats not an issue for me). Also if anyone has a Mouseman Wheel, Id like some feedback before I go and buy the thing. Thanks

I have a MouseMan Wheel USB mouse in a box.

I don't use it, but I tried it and it worked pretty well. You still need a serial or PS/2 mouse for the initial Windows install, but after that you can remove it and use only the USB mouse.

I had to load special software drivers for the wheel to work, and it reminded me of resident drivers I didn't like because WIN98 automatically supports the Logitech wheel mouse with no add-ins.

I also hated shuffling the mouses for sys recovery's.

Well, because of my love of the original Mouseman series (I have two PS/2 Mousemen), I bought a new USB Wingman gaming mouse based on the same external design. I've noticed the USB version is smoother and they've made the clicking better (of course, this isn't because of USB, but because of the new design).

I absolutely LOVE USB devices. Plug them in any time, they are automatically detected, press Enter a few times (usually the driver is already shipped with Windows), and it's set up and ready. And when you use USB, you get to free up the PS/2 IRQ. The more stuff using USB, the potentially more IRQs you'll free up.

Oh, and if you are ever shopping for a monitor, start insisting on models with onboard USB hubs. They are so nice - taking your USB ports from 2 to 5. Believe me, USB is the way to go.

doesnt the USB model come with a PS/2 connector too?
Thats what Logitech sez anyways..Im also thinking of getting a new keyboard (still using a generic 101 and it kinda sucks..thinkin of the Logitech internet keyboard). I wanna know how good the Logitech Mouseman Wheel measures up against the MS Intellimouse..Is the third mouse button pressing down the wheel like Intellimouse? Does it give off a click (well not a audible click..like a lock) when you roll the wheel so u have a distinctive roll? These are the two main things I like the Intellimouse for...Thanks for the feedback..I would like more if theres anymore out there

The Wingman gaming mouse comes with a USB-PS/2 converter - so yes, you can go PS/2.

Aural,

I have a Mouseman + and luv it. The middle wheel does a click when u press it down. It scrolls good. Only problem is cleaning the usual grit out of the roller ball contacts.

I did have to repair rubber covering on the scroll wheel after a year's hard use, it came loose and took a lot of pressure to get it to scroll. A little RTV silicone under the rubber solved that problem.
