Looking for a book..

This request may appear a bit vague but its worth a try;
Can anyone tell me the name of a science fiction/fantasy book which features a character called "NOM".
NOM is a powerful entity which lives in a desert. I cant remenber the book title or the author, I read the book years ago.

Hi.

If you are looking for some good fantasy books you might
take a look on some of my favorites.
(I guess that 'ofcourse, have read them' pops up in your
mind, but if not...)

The books are:

* The Dark Elf Trilogy (expands into an 6-10 books).
* Time of Wheel (Robert Jordan. First two books are a little
hard to read, but then it takes off through
the sky. 9 books).

* Diskworld. (Terry Pratchett) This is the fantasy answer on
Douglas Adams. Its some of the most fantastic,
and funny litterature I have ever read.
He has written 25 books with this thema, and
som suggestions to what book to start with is:
"Feet of Clay", "Soul Music", "Reaperman",
"Light Fantastic", "Color of Magic", "Interesting
Times", "Moving Pictures" and "Pyramids".
Stay away from the "Wyrn Sisters" cause that
is the worst book in the serie.
