I'm building a new system this summer and thanks to the internet I have been able to do extensive research on all the components EXCEPT the case! Not much info out there besides the manufacturer propaganda. Any info, ideas, URLs, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
I'm looking for a mid tower ATX case with a 250-300w power supply.

I'm in the same boat. Have read reviews on Enlight 3237 (I think ) and CasEdge ATX midtower. Enlight got 4 of 5 stars and CasEdge got 5 of 5. TCComputers has user reviews/comments on its cases at the website - tccomputers.com. Kind of helpful. Post if you find something good
Hi,
I bought 2 cases from Chenbro (www.chenbro.com.tw), the Blando series: mid tower and full tower.
- space for extra-fans
- you don't have to remove all the case (for the full tower), the panel slides out very easily
- robust case

Two of the most popular case brands are Enlight and InWin. Both have very good reputations. I have an Enlight 6680 (AT) and love it - the entire outer shell slides off in 4 different pieces, has extra hard drive holders scattered throughout the case-not just in drive bays. Check out www.megadepot.com. Their selection is small but they charge $5 for shipping on any item including cases and monitors.
I find that "computer shows" are the best place to buy cases. It gives a chance to look and touch and compare. Best prices, too. If there are none in your town, it might be worth a trip to Davis or Sac'to. I'd expect to find one up there. You can also get good deals on small periphals ~ FDDs, sound cards etc. If you haven't already bought everything else, take your price list to a show and see what you can do. Then get the rest through PriceWatch or the like.
You can't always trust the reviews anyway. I saw one of my case at Ars Technica and wonder if it's really the same one? A lot of what they said was wrong about the Enlight 7237. The only part that was right is that it is ubiquitous and kinda generic.
Mine is very quiet and I've found no sharp edges at all. I've had no trouble with the front panel either.
However, I'll be looking for info too, as I want to build again by the end of the year if I can manage it. My mate prefers a desktop style...

Well because i'm partial to dells, i like the Palo Alto cases, which dell and micron currently use. The ACTX is a mid-tower which has pretty good cooling, obviously well built and looks good. You can get a 92mm front fan, 80mm fan below the ps and a horizontal fan. I have a 250W ps which i think is standard and optional 300w ps.
A little more then the run of the mill Inwins and enlights if this is your thing
There were a couple of threads on cases in here a few weeks ago. You should be able to hunt them down...go back about a month and a half, two months.
I have the Elan Vita T-10AB. Very nice if you plan on constant upgrading/opening up the case and poking around. It's designed for Asus boards, but there are about 20 positions for mounting posts to fit whateve board you buy. Single thumb screw to take the side off, drive cages pull out with no screws at all, front and rear fans, even has a window on the front for Asus's InfraRed module. You can even order it with a choice of front designs. www.elanvital.com.tw (http://www.elanvital.com.tw)
Here's one of the threads mentioned...
