Cable broadband and DSL are languishing. Everything I really need and can’t live without on the internet is available within a reasonable time span on a dial up 56k modem. MP3,s were shot down with the demise of Napster, CNN now charges for video content and Drivers.com are selling public information to make a buck. The last demo I ever saw that had any decent functionality was Alice. Is there any thing left on the net worth paying more for faster service?

I imagine the next step is to start offering to watch movies over the internet for a service cost. That's where the wider bandwidth will be needed.

I got cable DSL, 512kb connection, which in real terms gives downloads of up to 60kb a second and uploads of about 15kb a second. The reality is usually somewhat less than this.

It has several advantages, none more so when downloading large amounts of data, say 700mb files, which you could not even consider on a 56kb connection. Even smaller 21mb to 50mb files are crippling on a 56kb modem.

i have a 60gb harddrive that has about 10gb of space left on it since i got cable two months ago. LOTR, many SG1 episodes, mp3's in minutes and the usual gunk that you cannot get with a 56k.

as for napster try kazaa lite or go to www.grokster.com for P2P sharing that makes napster look like a dinosuar.

Just my tuppence worth.:D
